The gland steam condenser packages create a slight vacuum on the turbine shaft seals using vacuum pumps and centrifugal blowers. The equipment captures the mixture of leaked steam and air, where the two are separated. The resulting condensate in a shell and tube condenser then drains from the bottom, while the air is extracted from the top.
